The First Unitarian Church of San José is a beautiful and historic building located in the heart of downtown San José directly across from St. James Park. Early on, the church developed its commitment to the inherent worth and dignity of all people and continues to serve this mission in the surrounding community today. Built in 1892, the picturesque building is registered as a California Historical Landmark (No. 902).

The circular-shaped sanctuary includes dozens of floral stained-glass windows on both the main floor and mezzanine which create dazzling light displays throughout. Seating consists of wooden rows with a charming patina. The triple-arched chancel overlooks the intricately designed labyrinth. A Steinway Baby Grand piano and Galanti Organ add additional elegance to the space.

The facility also offers special amenities including: A ramp that leads to the church’s side entrance, hearing-assist devices, large-type hymnals, and an elevator.  Parking validation is also included.

Your group is welcome to gather in the parlor-style Fireside Room, featuring an upright piano, beautiful wainscoted walls, and a gorgeously maintained barrel ceiling. It also features a wooden fireplace as well as notable antique touches throughout, like an intricately carved buffet for refreshments. With many different rooms available, this is the perfect venue for your special occasion.

On-site Event Management

Because we want your event to be special and successful, Maxine Goulding is available as your on-site coordinator.  Maxine will help you with floor plans and the rehearsal of your event. She will help with room set-up, assist vendors with move in and move out, help with logistics, and be there to assist you with your event. In addition, Maxine can provide referrals for exceptional suppliers/vendors from caterers to photographers.
