All persons within the building and at functions sponsored by the congregation must be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of gender, gender identity, gender expression, or transition status. Individuals have the right to request the name and pronoun by which they will be addressed. Refusing to call someone by their requested name or pronoun is harassment.
All individuals have the right to use facilities that match their gender identity or gender expression. Transgender and gender nonconforming individuals should not be expected to use gender neutral facilities only. Each individual is trusted to know which restroom is most comfortable and appropriate for them.
Individuals have the right to discuss their gender identity and expression openly, or to keep that information private. A person’s transgender status must not be revealed without that person’s consent.
In support of these policies, all forms, directories, and other documents used by this congregation will use gender-neutral words such as parent, child, sibling, partner, or spouse. If there is ever a need for titles such as Mr or Ms, there will also be an option to use Mx or to leave the title blank.
The congregation will be informed of this resolution in at least one service, the Circular, at least one weekly email, and on the website. If these policies are not followed by congregants, it is incumbent upon congregational leadership to provide sensitivity training.
A copy of this resolution will be given to current renters and shall be included in all future rental agreements. Infringement of this policy puts at risk the renewal of the rental agreement.
