All-Church Book Study Group

Mistakes and Miracles
Pull out your copies of Rev. Nancy and Karin Lin’s book, refresh your memories or start to read it anew! We’ll gather for 5 Saturdays in a row (May 916, 23, 30, and June 6) to continue our exploration of the book and discover how it can contribute to FUCSJ’s growth as a radically welcoming Beloved Community!
Oh, these conversations are so rich and deep! And this Saturday, May 23rd, I’ll get to share with you news of the awesome workshop for Virtual GA 2020 that Karin and I recorded on Monday with UU rock Stars Rev. Bill SinkfordRev. Marta ValentinReligious Educator Aisha Hauser, and Congregant Jimmy Leung.

This week, wherever you are in the book, please do skim or skip ahead to Chapter 6 (Karin’s first-person experience with First Parish UU in Cambridge, MA) (or quickly review it if it has been a while). Please consider these prompts:

  • What does Karin, a woman of color, feel and experience in her Unitarian Universalist congregations and other settings?
  • What obstacles does Karin face to feeling welcome in her UU congregations?
  • What specific steps does First Parish take to create a more radical welcome?
  • What do you learn from this chapter that you want to “bring home” to FUCSJ?
  • What burning questions are arising for you as you move through “Mistakes and Miracles”?

The e-book is available wherever you get your online copies.

If you need a copy of the book you can hold in your hands, please let Linda Yepiz know (, and we can get you a copy at a discount.
