Governance
FUCSJ uses a modified form of Policy–Based Governance, in which the Board of Directors set clear policies that reflect the congregation’s vision and mission, and that direct and guide the work of staff and volunteers. Board policies, as well as protocols for the work of the Board, are described on this page.
Whereas the Board sets policies, the Operations and Management Council (OMC) runs the church on a day-to-day basis. OMC members are representatives of major program areas within the church. The OMC meets monthly to improve communication and coordination across programs, and administer the church’s operations. The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the church is the head of the OMC.
The Board, OMC, and Nominating Committee meet annually in a retreat, to reflect on the year, and to plan for the following year. These retreats provide the basis for an annual report to the congregation
In addition to Board and OMC meetings, the three church leaders (President, COO, and Senior Minister) also meet regularly, to stay in sync with each other. Typically, these meetings are held biweekly.
