Roberto Padilla, was born in Mexico City where he obtained the title of medical doctor at the Universidad Autónoma de México and later received a master's degree in business administration. After working as assistant director of medical services in a banking institution, Roberto decided to immigrate to the United States in 1998 in search of new horizons. Shortly after his arrival, he started attending the Spanish-language services at the First Unitarian Church of San José at the invitation of a friend. Captivated by the Unitarian philosophy and the atmosphere of community, Roberto decided to get involved in church's diverse activities as a volunteer. For the first two years he also volunteered with the Third Street Community Center, a nonprofit group that is housed in the church.

Roberto's desire to share his knowledge and theological restlessness and his commitment to the Spanish-speaking community of the church, lead him to the pulpit. At first Roberto led occasional services, but he became a permanent leader once the Rev. Lilia Cuervo left her position as Spanish-speaking Minister in the summer of 2004. In October 2005, Roberto accepted the position as the Spanish-Speaking Ministries Coordinator in which he remains to the present day. Roberto is committed to helping the Spanish-Speaking Ministries at the First Unitarian Church of San José, to continue growing spiritually and to grow membership.

... have patience with everything
that remains unsolved in your heart.
Try to love the questions themselves,
like locked rooms and like books written in a foreign language.
Do not now look for the answers.
They cannot now be given to you because you could not live them.
It is a question of experiencing everything.
At present you need to live the question.
Perhaps you will gradually, without even noticing it,
find yourself experiencing the answer, some distant day.
