The Rev. Nancy Palmer Jones has served the First Unitarian Church of San José since 2005. Hers is a spirited ministry, dedicated to working with First Unitarian to create a Beloved Community where all are welcome and where our diverse backgrounds, ages, and theologies prompt us to grow warmer, deeper, and stronger. In the loving, justice-seeking congregation of First Unitarian, Nancy has found her perfect match.
Nancy received a Master of Divinity degree from Harvard Divinity School in 2002 and a bachelor’s degree, with majors in English and French, from Stanford University in 1974. Before coming to First Unitarian, she served Unitarian Universalist congregations in Freeport, New York, and Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts.
Nancy is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association’s JUUST Change Consultancy, which works with congregations and organizations to deepen their social justice and antioppression work. With the late Rev. Marjorie Bowens-Wheatley, Nancy is the co-editor of Soul Work: Antiracist Theologies in Dialogue (Skinner House, 2003), and she has authored numerous religious education curricula for the UUA.
Nancy writes: “One of Unitarian Universalism’s great gifts is its request that we bring to our faith all that we are—head and heart; action and reflection; worship, work, and play. In my earlier life, it took two vocations (acting and editing) for me to find this balance. Now I have come home to a single calling, ministry, within the living tradition of Unitarian Universalism, where we can share all that we have learned and all that we continue to learn as we create a Beloved Community. What a gift!"
